NQOBANI MZIZI - Programme Director

Mr. Mzizi has been a Member and Non-Executive Director at the Institute of People Management and has experience with lecturing at WITS Business School.
A civil servant by profession and 'careerist' at heart, Mzizi holds a number of senior positions and is continually working at building a career that serves and supports the development of others. As such, in addition to sitting on the board of SAIPA as well as two others, he is an office-holder at local government level. He is also an academic facilitator and mentor - roles that he values above all else.

Ms Yanga Mputa joined the Office of the Tax Ombud as South Africa’s first female Tax Ombud on 1 July 2023. She has more than 20 years of experience in tax. She started her tax career in 1999 when she joined the SARS Head Office as a Tax Specialist. After that, she moved to Arthur Andersen as a Senior Tax Consultant. In 2003, she joined the National Treasury’s Tax Policy unit as Deputy Director, International Tax. Three years later, in 2006, she became Director: International Tax, where her role included, amongst others, negotiating South African tax treaties, developing South African international tax policy, and managing international tax legislative amendments. Since January 2017, she has served as the South African representative on the OECD/G20 Steering Group of the Inclusive Framework on Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (BEPS), which is charged with the implementation of BEPS measures to tackle tax avoidance, improve the coherence of international tax rules and ensure a more transparent tax environment.

Mr. Peyana is a highly respected and accomplished accounting professional with over 25 years of experience in taxation, governance, compliance, internal auditing, and financial reporting. Holds prestigious qualifications, including Associate General Accountant (AGA) with the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants and Professional Accountant (SA) with the South African Institute of Professional Accountants (SAIPA).
A Brief on the Office of the Tax Ombudsman
The OTO complies with the legislative mandates of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa Act 108 of 1996 (the Constitution) and the Tax Administration Act 28 of 2011. In terms of s195 of the Constitution, public administration must be governed by the democratic values and principles enshrined in the Constitution, including a high standard of professional ethics; efficient, economical and effective use of resources; provision of impartial, fair and equitable service; transparency and accountability.
